They say cut back… – Report


On 31st October, members of teaching unions Unite, UCU and UNISON went on strike in protest of pay cuts.

Lectures and tutors are suffering the worst cuts since World War II, with a sustained gender pay gap averaging 20%. They showed their anger on Thursday by cancelling lectures and tutes,and marching in Oxford.

Students, led by Lincoln’s Nathan Akehurst (co-founder of ‘Support Our Staff’), were encourgaed to join in solidarity by refusing to attend lectures and by joining the rally.

A healthy crowd manifested under Carfax Tower at 2pm, with both staff and students marching under banners bearing slogans such as ‘Trick or Treat, we can’t afford to live or eat!’

They continued to march down Cornmarket, Broad Street and High Street, before “occupying” Exam Schools.

Security staff refused to comment upon the disruption caused to the University.
